Experiencing Embodied Cultural Practices through Motion Capture and Immersive Media: A Hybrid Research/Practice Collaboration Across Disciplines

Interactive, immersive experience (2019-Present)
In collaboration with Luke Dahl (UVA Music Dept) and the indigenous community of Peppimenarti

Emerging technologies such as Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), Mixed Reality (MR), and Motion Capture(MoCap) have long been used by the entertainment industry and commercial outlets to create simulated environments or replications of existing physical environments. Our project aims to apply these technologies to develop new ways for preserving, learning about, and engaging with movement-based cultural traditions and rituals that are particularly inaccessible to outsiders.

This project is made possible through a fellowship grant through the Institute for Advanced Technology in the Humanities at the University of Virginia.
